Mentionworthy Monday

-->
The Problem of Pain & Suffering Debate Roundup- As of yesterday, one month has passed since the Butt-Erhman debate, where Kyle Butt did an outstanding job explaining why pain and suffering do not prove the nonexistence of God. If you didn’t have a chance to listen/watch/attend, I encourage you to access it here and then listen to the wrap-up by TLN’s Torrey Clark. Torrey interviews, Kyle, his coworkers and then gives his own take on what happened with the debate. It is well worth your time.

Wifey Wednesday – Speaking to wives and wives-to-be here…if you haven’t checked out Wifey Wednesday via The Light Network yet, you are missing out. My collection of wifey wisdom is growing substantially as each episode is released. Emily Hatfield does a great job (as always) gathering wisdom from her guests on a variety of subjects-from how to keep your balance while ministering to others to dealing with the unexpected. Each guest brings great tips and insight to the table and (if you’re like me) you’ll find yourself going back for a second-or even third listen!

ThredUp –Let’s be honest, shopping for modest, affordable clothing is not for the weak hearted. This is why I am so excited to share one of my clothing secrets with you today! When it comes to style, I love that our society is all about piecing items together to suit your own needs and taste. What I hate…that to actually put a modest outfit together, it often ends up costing an arm and a leg! Here’s where my new best friend comes in…aka ThredUP. ThredUp is basically a high-end online consignment store (I say high end because they prefer to accept name brand clothing in almost new condition) with reasonably priced items. I have found great deals & I hope you will too!

Traditional Thursday

Cobbler
I am a huge supporter of healthy eating. I constantly try to fix healthy meals for my family and incorporate organic ingredients into our diet. Of course, there are always those recipes that have been handed down from through the family that don’t quite fall into this category. For this reason I adopted the motto, “Everything in moderation,” and I enjoy those southern staples. One such being cobbler. Don’t believe me? When was the last time you went to a church potluck where cobbler wasn’t present?-As I was saying, cobbler is a southern staple and every good southern girl has a go-to cobbler recipe. Here’s mine…

Ingredients:
1 stick margarine (melted)
¾ cup self rising flour
½ cup sugar
¾ cup milk
aprrox. 1 cup of your favorite fruit (i.e. blueberries, blackberries, cherries, etc.-peach is pictured below)

Mix all ingredients and pour into an oven-safe (I use a 8x8 glass dish). Bake at 350° for 35 to 45 minutes.

Tough Truth Tuesday - Living with Less

-->Living with Less: The Upside of Downsizing Your Lifeby Mark Tabb

Living with less is a concept many of us struggle with, which is why I decided to feature the book review of Mark Tabb’s work on tough truth Tuesday. I don’t know about you, but when I think about living with less, I get fired up. I’m one hundred percent in. It sounds great, but when it comes time to put that great idea into practice it doesn’t sound quite so wonderful. Tabb claims to be no stranger to this train of thinking. With the exception of a few doctrinal issues, Tabb does an exceptional job explaining that living with less is not a one-time-spring-cleaning event of our material possessions. Living with less is a state of mind we must develop within ourselves.

As always with my book reviews, I like to share a few of my favorite quotes, so without further adieu…

“No one wants to live a life that is pointless. Our souls are hardwired for something more.”

“The old English preacher, Charles Spurgeon said, ‘A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you, and were helped by you, will remember you when forget-me-nots are withered. Carve your name on hearts and not marble.’”

“Influence demands relationships and time. There is no other way. And both of these demand we clear all the unimportant items out of our way and make relationships and time together our priorities. They demand we take on the heart of a servant.”
