Summer
is in full swing now. Summer is hot anywhere but especially in the south. One
of the things I love to help keep cool in the summer is fruit. I LOVE fruit.
During the summer I start thinking about how God in his infinite wisdom, provided
it for us and knew the best time for it to be ripe. Then I am reminded of God’s
commandment for us to bear fruit (Romans 7:4).
So what kind of fruit are we to bear? According to 2 Peter 1:5-7, the fruit of
the spirit.
“And beside this, giving
all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to
knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”
2 Peter 1:5-7
There
is a misconception among many Christians that they can be unfruitful,
unfaithful and unconcerned yet God will accept them because he is a loving God.
This is not the case. The church at Laodicea was lukewarm. They were not
producing fruit; they had become complacent and thus became utterly distasteful
to the Lord. We must be on constant watch that we do not fall into the same
trap and die one limb at a time. We must be working and bearing fruit for the
Lord.
“Wherefore, my brethren,
ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be
married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should
bring forth fruit unto God.”
Romans 7:4
